Crisis management/intervention training for the workforce is an additional skill that leaders within an organisation can use and understand by allowing them to confidently help a colleague who may be in an emotional crisis and also be there for their team.
Your 4-hour course will cover exactly what an individual can do, to ensure that a colleague who is in a crisis, will be able to advise and provide appropriate support, with follow-up plans and resolutions to aid in the management of the situation within a team and as a company. We can tailor this delivery to a course that covers:
Define The Problem
Establish trust and work with the individual in distress to help them fully explain their crisis (as they see it) and what caused it, using non-judgemental listening skills. Understand the crisis and its impact on the company.
Ensure Primary Safety.
Ensure that the individuals within the company are in a safe place or safe space and are not at risk of immediate harm from themselves or others if they are in crisis. Or understand if the current company crisis has put anyone at risk of harm to themselves or others and create a safe environment for the individuals at risk.
Provide Support
When the individual(s)/ are physically safe and the trained member of staff (Workplace Coach or MHFA’r) has a clearer understanding of the crisis, a process of immediate, medium, and long-range solutions are discussed to establish a support pathway.
Examining Alternatives.
Explore options that can be made available which include organisations that can and will help them with their ongoing support with service providers, what internal support can they be offered, adjustments to their role, what are the goals that need to be set for them to thrive and succeed.
Make Plans
Together, develop plans for how to implement the chosen alternatives, focusing on realistic and manageable steps that the individuals can take. In addition, make plans for how the person(s) can be cared for holistically following this crisis with what the company has already implemented.
Obtain Commitment
With trust established, now ensure that the individual commits to these steps. This is reliant upon the plan that was discussed in the previous step and will be a written document that is available and ready to remind the individual of the agreed steps to achieve a positive solution.
